Screen Recording and Capture with Chromebook

You can take a screenshot or record a video of your Chromebook's screen. After you capture your screen, you can view, edit, delete, and share the image or video.

Tip: Screenshots and recordings are automatically copied to your clipboard and can be set to automatically store in any folder or Google Drive location.

Take a screenshot/Record your screen

There are many ways to access the screen capture and screen record program in Chrome OS.

If you are using your Chromebook's keyboard, press Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows. The show windows key is pictured here.

If your external keyboard doesn't have a Show Windows key, press Ctrl + Shift + F5.
If you use the menu at the bottom, selected by clicking on the time, select Screen Capture. See the image below for reference.

Once in the screen capture, select an option:

Select ScreenCapture or Screen Record by highlighting the camera or camcorder options.
Take a full-screen screenshot or Screen Record. See below.

Take a partial screenshot or Screen Record. See Below.

Take a window screenshot or Screen Record. (You will need to click on the window you wish to capture when using this option

Screen Record and Capture Settings

Selecting the gear icon to the left of the 'X' will open up the screen capture settings.

Select "Device and audio microphone" to record all sounds from the computer and from the microphone.
Select "Microphone" to record sounds from the microphone selected from Chromebook settings.
Select "Device audio" to record all sounds being outputted from the Chromebook.
Select whether you want to record camera input
Select whether to show clicks and key inputs
Select where to save the your recordings under "save to".

Recordings and screenshots get saved to your “Downloads” folder. You can change where your recordings or screenshots are saved:

At the bottom, select Settings Select folder. Recordings or screenshots you take are added to the folder you select.

You can select the folder and click open to confirm your selection.

Note: You will be required to share it to a specific folder within Google Drive, please select the correct folder that is shared with you via Google Drive so all recordings go to one area.

Tips:

If you use an attached microphone, ensure it is selected as the correct input option from your Chromebook settings.
You can also change the size of your screenshot. On your keyboard, press the Tab key until one of the circle corners of the section is highlighted.
On your keyboard, to change the height of your screenshot, press the Up arrow or Down arrow keys.
On your keyboard, to change the width of your screenshot, press the Left arrow or Right arrow keys.
Longer recordings may take longer to populate in your shared folder.
