Gmail Missed Messages Scam

There is an email scam going around that tried to replicate Gmail as the sender.  It is a faked notification that you have missed messages.  

See the example below:

Google does not send any emails like this.  There are few warning signs to look for in this scenario:

  • The sender is displayed as "Gmail" but the address does NOT come from Google.
  • The email is claiming to be an automated message but it does not reference you actual name anywhere.  It is just a generic email using generic language.
  • The official Google logo is not used in the header.
